Faces of Dublin.
Interview and Portrait series, Commissioned by Fresh Cuts Clothing, Dublin, September 2020
Dublin is where we work, where we live, where we play, where we put down roots, and where we get our inspiration from. We wanted to get a sense of Dublin from the people living, working and creating here, the people that are invested in it as a place. The character of a place is defined by its people, and this interview series was developed to explore the human face of our city.
Megen Best.
Native Events
It takes a global pandemic to pin down Megan Best for a chat in the height of summer. Any other year she’d be deep in a field putting together a festival, as operations manager for Body and Soul. She’s also CEO of Native Events, a sustainable event production and solutions company. They’ve taken on the task of trying to transform the Irish Events Industry into a more ‘environmentally regenerative’ model, which keeps her pretty busy.
Colin Harmon.
3FE Coffee
In 2008 Colin Harmon of 3FE packed up a successful career as an investment broker, to focus on his real passion - coffee. A year later he was the reigning Irish Barista Champion, and had travelled to Atlanta to place 4th in the World Championships. Today the 3FE empire consists of 6 coffee shops, a web shop, a training business and a roastery that supplies quality coffee to businesses around Ireland.
Aoife Nic Canna.
DJ & Broadcaster
DJ Aoife Nic Canna has been a central figure in the Irish dance music scene for over 25 years. She was nicknamed the ‘First lady of Irish House’ by Hotpress magazine, and has played some of the best known nights in the city, clocking up residencies in the Kitchen, the Rock Garden, 4 Dame Lane and an 8 year slot in RiRa.
Sunil Sharpe.
Give us the night
Sunil Sharpe is a DJ, activist and educator. He’s one of Ireland's most sought after techno DJs and producers, and a regular fixture in the club scene at home and around Europe. Since the mid-2000’s, he’s been advocating for a more progressive approach to nightlife as part of the “Give us the Night Campaign’. Their aim is to modernise Ireland's archaic licensing laws and create a more diverse and vibrant night-time industry. He was recently appointed to the government's newly launched ‘Night-time Economy Taskforce’, where we’re hoping some of these issues will be tackled.
